Gorran formal statement about the memory of Anfal

32 years ago the crime of anfal and genocide had been committed against thousands of Kurdistan people by Sadam regime. This huge crime contains 8 phases and continued from February 8 of 1988 until September of the same year, by this crime 182 thousand people, including children, women, man, young and old people had been massacred, more than 4500 villages had been destroyed, the environment had been polluted, and the infrastructure had been hit by a huge damage.

This year, we commemorate this crime when coronavirus as an international disease has faced the whole humanity, and kuristan people inside their homes as they follow healthy directions, will commemorate this crime.

It is so worry that annually and in this national commemoration, the number of anfal committer and who are involved in this crime, are free and they are not been surrendered to the courts, although the high court of crimes of Iraq has recognized Anfal as Genocide, at the same time, the Iraqi government hasn’t apologize formally for Kurdish nation and hasn’t compensate the relatives of Anfal.



Inside Kurdistan Region, because of the weakness in the institutions, we haven’t been successful in the recognition of Anfal as Genocide in the international community.

It is the duty of all sides, including the government and legitimate institutions, political parties, civil society organizations, media outlets, universities, Kurdish diaspora and activists, to work in associate with the federal Iraqi government and within the Iraqi embassies and Kurdish representations in order to recognize this crime across worldwide.

Finally, the compensation of Anfal relatives will not achieve just by financial support, but it should use this anniversary as chance to enforce the beginning of good governing and making reforms inside Kurdistan Region.
